You will stay in one of our volunteering houses during your in the South West of Sri Lanka. You will be staying on with up to 36 other volunteers in the same accommodation. These volunteers are spread over our 4 different programmes - so you will go off with your group during the day, then meet up with everyone else for the evening. We believe sharing accommodation with like-minded people increases the fun and social atmosphere – and it’s a great place to make new friends!



Room facilities

All volunteers are provided with clean bed sheets and a pillow for their bed. All rooms are fitted with fans and mosquito nets!

How many people are in my room?

Rooms sleep from 2 – 6 volunteers. All rooms are same gender rooms, unless pre-booked for a couple.

What are the washing and toilet facilities like in my room?

Every room has an en-suite bathroom. You have a western style toilet, shower and sink in every room. We currently use a laundrette to wash clothes – this is very cheap!

Can I share a room with my friend?

Yes! You can share a room with your friends – just let us know before you arrive!

Can I stay with my partner?

Yes - We always try and put couples in a room together when we can! Try and book in ASAP so we have space to do this.

Is my room cleaned?

We have a cleaner who will clean your room 2 times a week and all your bedding once a week.


What facilities/equipment are in the house?

Volunteers have access to most of equipment in the house. We have fully equipped kitchens you can use for cooking in at the weekends, water filters and even projectors for movie nights!

Where do we eat?

We have our very own rooftop restaurant! This is where you will eat your meals and catch up with your fellow volunteers. There's often social events going off most evenings such as movie night, pub quiz, karaoke and loads more

Is the house secure?

The main Travelteer House is walled and gated. We have a security guard who works from 8pm to 8am every day. Sri Lanka is a safe place, but just for extra piece of mind we like to take extra precaution.

Can I Make Phone calls and Do I Have access to Wi-Fi?

You can use your phone just like you do in your own country – however there will be extra charges that apply so please check with your service provider. We do have Wi-Fi at the house however it is limited, and can often run out towards the end of the month. However, there is lots of cafes and restaurants close by with Wi-Fi.

What happens if I have a problem with the accommodation?

Are we by the beach?

Yes – the house is just 100m from the beach!

How far away is the nearest town?

Hikkaduwa town is just a 5-min drive in a tuk tuk away. You can even walk it along the beach in the right season.

What restaurants are in the local town?

There is a large variety of restaurants you can go to in Hikkaduwa – everything from gourmet Burger restaurants, Italians and of course all types of local cuisine.

What activities can you do in the local town?

In the right season, you can rent out surf and body boards. On a calm day try paddle boarding! Or if you fancy something a bit more adventurous you could go to the lake and go water skiing, jet skiing or on a river safari. Yoga is also very popular in the area.

What other things are close by?

Galle is the nearest City to you where you can find Galle Fort. Travelteer can help arrange any trip you’d like to go on no matter how far or close it is. We can organise white water rafting, safaris, hiking and even a sort stay on another part of the island. Just ask one of the team!
