Overview
Nursing Placements
Our Nursing Placements have been developed in partnership with both government and private hospitals as well as local healthcare practitioners in Sri Lanka to provide ethical work experience for Nursing and Midwifery students.
The programme provides students direct access to Sri Lanka's healthcare system, providing a real insight into one of the busiest medical environments in the world.
The programme provides insight into the various forms of healthcare found in Sri Lankan communities, with volunteers shadowing practitioners in both Western and Ayurvedic fields.
Volunteers on all of our placements have the opportunity to enhance their skill sets via mentorship from local professionals as well as enjoy the vibrant culture and tropical landscapes of Sri Lanka.

Project
Local Hospitals
Overview
Our partnership with both the Karapitiya & Asiri Teaching Hospitals provides volunteers on our Nursing Placement the opportunity to observe local consultants, doctors and nurses working on various wards. The project is a fantastic way to gain insight into how Sri Lankan healthcare systems are run and gain experience through the observation of medical professionals. Nursing volunteers will generally observe together as a group and the hospitals are just a short drive from our volunteer accommodation.

Ayurvedic Treatment
Overview
Ayurveda developed over 3,000 years ago in India and is an Eastern healing system believing that health and wellness depend on a careful balance between the mind, body and spirit. Volunteers will get the unique experience to see the making of Ayurvedic herbal medicine and the benefits it brings to communities. Nursing volunteers will observe a number of traditional treatments such as Acupuncture and Sirolepa- used to stimulate the nerves and treat stress and anxiety.
Project
Rural Clinics
Overview
As we move away from the main towns and cities, we venture into the jungle areas of Sri Lanka, where volunteers will assist local healthcare professionals in rural clinics, providing healthcare access to disadvantaged communities. Volunteers will assist with tasks, such as painting and revamping old clinics, admin for the clinic patients and observing the professionals.
