Turing Funding 2026/27: Fund Your Travelteer Volunteering Trip Abroad

Thinking about volunteering abroad with Travelteer but worried about the cost?

There’s good news. For the 2026/27 academic year, eligible university students can receive funding towards international placements, including volunteering opportunities.

Travelteer works with universities across the UK to provide students with international volunteering experiences in Sri Lanka, Morocco, Nepal and Vietnam — and our university network now includes 48 universities across the UK.

There is an important reason to look at this funding now: 2026/27 is the final year of the Turing Scheme. The UK Government has confirmed that the Turing Scheme will not operate in 2027/28, with UK universities able to access international placement funding through Erasmus+ from 2027.

What is Turing funding?

The Turing Scheme is a UK Government programme designed to help students take part in international study, work and volunteering placements.

For higher education students, eligible placements can last from 14 days up to 12 months.

Funding can contribute towards:

• International travel

• Living costs

• Costs associated with an overseas placement

• Travel-readiness costs for eligible disadvantaged students

• Additional support for students with disabilities or additional needs

The exact amount available depends on your university, destination, placement length and individual circumstances.

Turing funding is a contribution towards your trip rather than necessarily covering the full cost.

How much could you receive?

For 2026/27, the standard Turing living-cost contribution for higher education placements of 14–56 days is:

• £19 per day or £17 per day depending on the destination group

• £23 per day or £21 per day for eligible disadvantaged students

• Additional travel and travel-readiness support may also be available for eligible disadvantaged students

Your university will confirm the exact funding available to you.

How does it work?

You do not apply directly to the UK Government for Turing funding.

Instead, your university applies for funding and then decides how its allocation is distributed among eligible students.

This means every university has its own process, deadlines and eligibility requirements.

Contact your university's study abroad, international, volunteering or careers team and ask whether you can use your Turing allocation towards a Travelteer placement.

3. Check your eligibility and funding deadline
Universities manage their own Turing funding, so deadlines and funding amounts can vary.

4. Book your Travelteer experience
Once your funding and placement are confirmed, we can help you organise the rest of your trip.
